Albany County resident Kristy Koldis, age 46, of Latham, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child in Albany federal court on Monday, June 3.

Koldis, a former counselor at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School in Albany and professor at Russell Sage College in Troy, admitted that she repeatedly took sexually explicit content depicting the victim’s genitals. The abuse continued until the child was 13.

As part of her guilty plea, she also confessed to sending the files to 47-year-old Joshua White, of Latham, a local youth baseball and basketball coach.

Investigators determined that the pair had taken photos of a child without their knowledge while the victim was in “compromising positions,” according to New York State Police.

The photos involved in the case were not taken on any school property or athletic venues.

Koldis and White were arrested in July 2023 after troopers were tipped off that inappropriate pictures of a child were being shared online.

White pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child pornography in December 2023 and is awaiting sentencing.

Koldis is expected to get 15 years in prison when she’s sentenced in October 2024.

The case was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s “Project Safe Childhood,” a coordinated effort between local, state, and federal agencies to track down individuals who exploit children using the internet.
